Talent alone will not make magic happen

This is my 3rd week of recharging. I try to keep myself in balance between winding down, stay home with kids and going out for meetings.

Getgo is a car sharing company founded during Covid time in Singapore. They reported being profitable for 2nd year straight, revenue surged 300%. I had lunch with Maximillian Jackson + 1 DE and 1 DS from his team. Learned that data team is 1/6 of his entire technology team. Respect the privacy, I don’t want to disclose how big the entire tech team is.

HeyMax.ai is a 10-month old fintech startup based out of Blk71 Ayer Rajah Cresent — the heart of Singapore’s Silicon Valley. I don’t really know what exactly HeyMax does. I heard from Joe — the CEO — that it is a search engine for credit card rewards etc. But it seems to be more than that.

What impressed me during my coffee chat with Joe is that he is a smart nerd, talked very little. Joe was born and raised in Shanghai, China. He moved to the US and worked for several companies then Meta as an engineering manager. Joe moved to Singapore and acquired Singaporean citizen after 4 years staying in the country.
